SPOT
We are the Strategic Physician Outreach Team (SPOT) for SKY Clinical Research Network (SKYCRNG).
SKYCRNG is a clinical research network group that offers operational, regulatory and other centralized research support services for site participating on industry sponsored and investigator -initiated trials.
Our Story
SPOT was born from a shared commitment to equitable healthcare access. We recognized a critical need for diversity within clinical trials, especially in the Black community. Driven by this mission, we empower Black doctors to lead as Primary Investigators (PIs) in their communities. Through strategic partnerships and support, we ensure that clinical trials are conducted with cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. Together, we're rewriting the narrative of clinical research, advancing health equity, and shaping a brighter future for all.
Our Mission
To drive positive change in clinical research by actively promoting diversity and inclusion. We are committed to increasing representation within clinical trials, particularly within the Black community, by partnering with doctors who serve as Primary Investigators (PIs). Through strategic collaboration and outreach, we aim to empower Black doctors to take on leadership roles in clinical research, ensuring that studies are conducted with cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. Diversity and Inclusion within Clinical Trials
Having Black doctors serve as Primary Investigators in clinical trials for the Black patient population is invaluable. Their presence not only fosters a deeper sense of trust and rapport but also ensures culturally sensitive care and representation. Here are some key benefits:

-
Cultural Understanding: Black doctors often possess a unique cultural understanding and sensitivity that can positively impact patient care. This understanding can help bridge communication gaps, address cultural nuances, and foster a greater sense of trust between patients and healthcare providers.
-
Representation Matters: Seeing a Black doctor in a leadership role within a clinical trial can inspire confidence and empower Black patients to participate. Representation matters and having diverse leadership can help break down barriers to participation and improve recruitment and retention rates within the Black community.
-
Improved Patient Outcomes: Research has shown that patients are more likely to adhere to treatment plans and experience better outcomes when they feel understood and supported by their healthcare providers. By having Black doctors as Primary Investigators, clinical trials can better meet the needs of the Black patient population, leading to improved health outcomes.
-
Advancing Health Equity: Increasing diversity among Primary Investigators helps to address disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. Black doctors bring unique perspectives and insights to clinical research, which can lead to more inclusive study designs, better patient engagement strategies, and ultimately, more equitable healthcare practices.

In summary, having Black doctors as Primary Investigators in clinical trials for the Black patient population is essential for fostering trust, improving patient outcomes, and advancing health equity. Their presence ensures that clinical research is conducted with sensitivity and cultural competence, ultimately leading to better healthcare outcomes for all.
